I ping servers fine, and when I join them I ping fine too.. provided I don't move. As soon as I start move, my ping jumps to 996 within a minute or so and then stays there until I rejoin. This makes playing tribes... impossible.

My network settings are normal and I have plenty of HD space. This happens on every server... any ideas?!?:(

my ISP is a college network.

I've had a normal ping all year up to this point (40 - 80). I don't know what backbone they are on. The problem only occurs with tribes (q3, rtcw, wc3 all run fine online)

what could it be?? i can't play ;(

Rename your clientprefs.cs to _clientprefs.cs or something and run tribes. It will create a new clientprefs.cs with default settings. See if that works. If not you can just delete the new one and rename your old one back. (it's in the config folder)

Try reinstalling Tribes?
What did you change before this started happening?

I have two copies of tribes on my system. One is clean, and I use it for testing and creating scripts/gui.

Both are effected by this phenomenon. I changed nothing, one day I just started 996ing. I will try to get my hands on a tribes disc for a clean install but I don't think it will help.

I heard from Tank in irc that some colleges run a packet sorting program called 'packeteer' that causes some big issues with the tribes 1 port...

so its a possibility that i'm just shit out of luck.

Ask tank for more info, seems like the only logical thing.

Talk to your school's network group or support group for the dorms you are in. They might have added something to the firewall/proxy/whatever they might use that locks/blocks that port for some reason (kazaa comes to mind in the 20k range of port addy's)
