Help w\ fcking AOL shit ping

To anyone that can help...
I don't have aol. I have a regular old local ISP. However, I just gave a copy of tribes to a friend of mine. He has AOL. Every time he tries to get in a server, he either 996's and drops, or gets in, but his ping jumps from about 600-800. He can't move or it lags. Are there any solutions to this? I KNOW SOMEONE wills say "drop AOL and get a cable modem"... i've heard it already... but for real, the dude wants to play some tribes, and he cant get cable... so we gotta make do with what we have. Is there any way you can shut off the AOL program or soemthing? Thanks guys.

Go with a local non-AOL ISP. I can't get cable/dsl either so I know the frustration with people saying "GET BROADBAND, DUH!". AOL just isn't going to be good, so go with another local ISP.

sorry, aol is an online server, not an isp. they're not meant to provide for shit like this (aka latency is not a factor)

besides, it could be a modem connection problem too. bah.

AOL proxies the connection.. so it will never have a good ping..

He's fucked.

AOL has never been good for playing game with a dailup.. He is out of luck on this one..
