Any of you guys live in Atlanta or know it well?

Will be flying in late and staying for 1 night around xmas holidays before heading off to lovely central america.

we'll probably be staying in a hotel near the airport, flight gets in at 11, and our flight the next morning is at 9am.

couple of questions:

1.) how far away is downtown atlanta/bar scene. is it worth it to catch a cab?
2.) if not, are there any towns/bars near the airport that would be a fun time

.. basically where can we find some atlanta cougars
 
Airport is not near downtown, although the subway system can take you there.

Do not go near underground Atlanta, that's where all the black people hang out.

I'd recommend The Vortex. It's located in Midtown and stays open until 3am.

Click on locations, then click Midtown. Parking will be tough. There's meters on the side of the street, and there's a parking lot across the street where you pay. By the time you get off the plane, get your luggage, and travel to downtown, it's going to be midnight. Cab may be a good idea, that way you don't have to park. Then you can get buzzed and take a cab to your room. Just need to store your bags somewhere at the bar. The burgers are amazing. Place was featured on Man V. Food. If your flight is at 9am, then you'll need to wake up at 6am and be near the airport at 7:00. Could be good to have a few drinks and a burger, but not enough time to get smashed and have a hang over in the morning.
