[nOrbitalstradamus] Oil Spill predicted by Nostradamus!!111 :p

SL83

Veteran XV
In the year 1555, Nostradamus, wrote the following verse, given in the original Old French: The verse, part of his prophetic writings, was designated as Century I, Quatrain 29:

Quand le poisson terrestre et aquatique,
Part forte vague au gravier sera mis,
Sa forme étrange suave et horrifique,
Par mer aux murs bien tôt les ennemis.

A strict translation can be given in these modern English words:

When fish and other land and sea life,
By force will be put upon the beach by a strong wave,
Its form will appear strange, oily and horrible,
Coming by seawater very steadily it shall climb the walls as an enemy.

"suave" is not french for "oily".

This is more accurate:

When fish and other land and sea life,
By force will be put upon the beach by a strong wave,
Its form will appear strange, sweet and horrible,
Coming by seawater very steadily it shall climb the walls as an enemy.

The guy that did the translation actually argues that Nostradamus did not speak today's french, but OLDE French. So fuck you frog.

Pour la chaleur solaire sus la mer
De negrepont les poisson demi cuits:
Les inhabitants les vendor entamer
Quand rhod. et gennes leur faudra le biscuit.

Century II, Quatrain 3

Because of the effect of solar heat on the sea waters,
In the blackened sea fish will be half cooked,
The inhabitants around it will come to cut them up and eat them,
When no biscuit (bread, food) will be found in major islands and cities.

Th following Nostradamian verse may indicate just how far north the oil slick and its effects may reach if it manages to enter the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic:

A quarante-huit degré climatérique,
A fin de Cancer si grande sécheresse:
Poisson en mer, fleuve, lac cuit hectique,
Bearn, bigorre par feu ciel en détresse.

Century V, Quatrain 98

Below the forty-eighth climacteric degree of latitude,
At the very end of Cancer (July 21) very great dryness,
Fish in the sea, rivers, lakes, boiling, bubbling,
Cities and countrysides in distress through fire reaching the sky.

As Nostradamus forewarned in his original verse, ever-increasing violent storms and tidal surges may aid in spreading the destruction even farther afield:

Un peu après non point longue intervalle,
Par mer et terre sera fait grand tumulte:
Beaucoup plus grande sera pugne navale,
Feux, animaux, qui plus front d’insulte.

Century II, Quatrain 40

A short while after a previous occurrence (a series of one following right after the other),
By sea and over land a great uproar will be raised,
Very great will become the battle of the elements (blowing dust, wind, water and heat combined),
Because of burning fires animal species will succumb as the greatest outrage of all.

I hope he retranslated everything with his OLDE French translation, I would certainly not expect him to cherry pick passages that he could translate to prove his belief that nostradamus wasn't just some vague prick talking a bunch of shit

Gulf Oil Spill Mega-Disaster Now Unfolding?Did Nostradamus Foresee This Event Over 450 Years Ago? - Forgotten Ages Research

edit: Just read Wowbagger's post.
None of the words in the original french even hint at anything involving oil or anything oily.
Even old french does not use the word suave as meaning oily.

perhaps the crude is sweet crude so it still works

or maybe it is elegant crude because it comes from dinosaurs who used to have fancy tea parties and wear fasionable dandy clothing

That's wrong.
Better translation:

When the terrestrial and aquatic fish,
Sends a strong wave towards the gravels (as in towards land),
It's weird form elegant and horrific,
From sea to wall, soon an enemy.

It sounds more like he's talking about a Tsunami than anything else.
None of the words in the original french even hint at anything involving oil or anything oily.
so he predicted the 2004 tsunami??

Obviously he's predicting the tsunami caused by a soon to transpire earthquake in the gulf that will send huge waves of oil to kill us all.

so he predicted the 2004 tsunami??

The original that sleighty 3 has the word "part".
It means to leave or to part (as in separate). Ex: Moses parted the sea with a mighty fart.
However, if it's a typo and the word is supposed to be "par", then the word is 'by'.
So instead it would change to

When the aquatic and terrestrial fish
By a strong wave on the land will be placed
Their shape elegant and horrific
From sea to wall, soon (to be) enemies.

If you actually look at it, what he is saying is:
When amphibians and water dwelling animals
Are pushed to the sea by the waves
They will have either an elegant or a horrific shape
Soon to be enemies.

He's basically telling of when aquatic animals took first a step on land and evolved into land based animals. Then the lands would be filled with predators and prey, etc.
The last line is somewhat hard to translate.
Hardly a prediction.
