[Netbook]HP 311

Looks like a pretty cool netbook using Nvidia's ION. Apparently it can handle 1080p HD output and screen is 1366 x 768. Coupled with the HDMI out thinking of having it double as a HTPC. Starts a $400.

HP Mini 311 with ION benchmarked: it goes very fast

engadget said:
We've already seen the NVIDIA ION-based HP Mini 311 perform impressively during demos, but now that the netbook is hitting reviewers it's time for some real benchmarks -- and according to the crew at Laptop, they're more than solid. The 311 scored a 1,917 on the PCMark 05 test, almost 500 points above the average netbook, and put up a scorching 1,386 in the 3DMark06 test -- 1,200 points over the netbook average, and basically the same score as a MacBook Air. That's not too surprising, seeing as ION is just a netbook-oriented variant of the GeForce 9400M, but it's still rather impressive -- and combined with 1080p video playback, the potential for some light gaming, and (eventually) ION-accelerated Flash, we'd say the Mini 311 is looking like a real contender.

Just thought some of you guys would be interested or have any thoughts.

Your other option is an overpriced Samsung, or the Lenovo S-12(ion version) which is what, $450-499 or something?

Wait wtf, it doesn't have DVI out? Would you use a HDMI to DVI adapter or VGA to DVI?

get one of the acer 11.6" laptops. comes with a core2 solo processor which will crush the atom processor that comes in most netbooks. also comes with intel's 4500mhd integrated graphics, which isn't that great, but still, with media player classic home cinema accelerating it, it should be able to do 1080p also.

the core2 solo cant do HD hulu/youtube
i rather have the ion over the core2 chip.
i have a 3810 timeline with a dual core and 4500, it can barely run counterstrike :|

a) I want to know what you actually get for that $400

b) If the battery life is less than 8 hours, it's not a worthy netbook contender, in my book

Edit: And I agree, it's probably worth waiting for the Eee version instead of HcraP.

i just can't take these things(netbooks)

i understand their purpose, and I have nothing against them, but I can't stand using them.

If I can't stand to carry a laptop with me where I am at, I wouldn't bother using a computer at all. There just isn't a sweet spot for me between laptop and cell phone.

According to a Chinese store website. The new eee PC is this:

$513

*Eee PC 1201N has a 12.1-inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

*Ion powered

*Rounding out the spec sheet, we find that the Asus Eee PC 1201N gets an Intel Atom N270 (why not the N280?), 250GB SATA hard drive, multicard reader, 1.3 megapixel camera, up to 11 hours of battery, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The list also makes mention of Windows 7
