Article on RealD 3D movies and the future

I don't have an opinion on this jazz yet. I saw Coraline in RealD. It was kind of cool, but I'm thinking it was held back by a crappy projector. I'll see Up! at a theatre that I know has an awesome DLP projector (watched Iron Man on it).

gimmick.

The idea of ALL movies needing to be 3D is a joke, it's cool when used for some things but a regular drama in "Viewmaster" mode wouldn't add anything.

People who don't want to see a good portion of movies in 3d are old weiners.

Its fucking sweet. Bottom line.

unless im standing in a holo deck fully immersed and I can hear/smell/touch, dont bother

at least it's not red and blue anymore. i was very surprised at how good realD actually looks.

i was against it at first, simply because a giant message at the bottom of the screen is distracting, and REALLY pulls me out of the atmosphere of the movie.

you don't have to yank my head out of it to slam it back in.

i saw Aliens vs Monsters in True3D. Looking forward to Coraline (hasn't come out here yet). But i reckon UP will be the best of the first usage of it. They are only gonna get better at it the more they do. Some things Monsters vs Aliens looked awesome, others were average. So bring on the movies that are pure awesome.

But i concur, its good its not red and blue anymore. And its the whole time. Not on and off etc.

RealD installs the same projector in all theaters that uses it last time I checked.

Saw Monsters vs Aliens in 3D. Was really good/cool and I don't see myself going to a standard movie again if the movie is also in 3D.

Until they get some sort of technology to completely encompass your field of vision without wearing some massive VR helmet I'm not really that interested.

I'm ready for devices that beam the images right into my brain, sight, sound, touch, even smell (within limits - I don't want to experience the scat scene from Zack and Miri make a Porno with that option turned on).

 Can you imagine that?

"I'll wait until the gimp gets here"

Oh god, did I turn off the smell option? ... So THAT is what rape smells like!

No, from what I've read I'm fairly certain that the projector needs to meet certain requirements, and that there are multiple projectors that do (brightness and framerate requirements are the biggest, I think). They then fit the projector with the circular polarization thingamajig and it's good to go. The projectors at the two theatres are definitely not the same; hell, the screen sizes are quite different as well, using the same in both would be overkill.

Even if it was a good projector, this particular theatre would probably fuck it up somehow

I think I saw chicken little in 3d. Its cool the first few minutes, then you forget about it.

Also, it sucks when they make you pay extra for it.

I also saw Coraline in 3d. Only cool part was in the beginning where they had a needle in 3D and it looked like it was going to stab you. Otherwise, half the time the movie wasn't even really in 3D. Secondly, the glasses caused the screen to look less bright (loss of some color) and they were fucking annoying especially if you have to put them over your prescription glasses. Finally, extra cash to use them and it was extra gay all the around.

3D still has a long ways to go IMO and I won't be satisfied until i get a halladeck experience, PERIOD.
