It depends on make and model.
The material cost (depending on number of cylinders) is cheap.

Spark plugs?

Do them yourself. Easiest job in the world and takes maybe 30 minutes.

Make sure when you have it done to change the air in all 4 tires and the hydrolic fluid to the side view mirrors. Otherwise your gas to air mix in the tank will completely ruin the transmission!

Oh and be sure to watch the mechanic sandpaper the new plugs. Some guys forget that.

Some engines have second row or cylinders of the V configuration deep inside behind lots of clutter so it's a pain to access.
