[procrastination] Ask me anything about making videogames

Won't promise answers, though. Am just a little bored at work and have an hour and a half to kill. Figured there might be some good questions here, and when I used to do the "Ask me anything about..." threads on the SWG forums it was fun.

I'm a Cinematic Designer at BioWare. I worked on Mass Effect and the DLC, Bring Down the Sky. I'm working on Dragon Age now, and will return to Mass Effect 2, which I was on until a couple months ago, after DA is done.

Specific information on games that is considered sensitive will obviously not be discussed. So don't expect any details on ME2, DA, or the MMO, which is being developed in Austin, anyway.

Also, any troll attempts will be treated as pleasant reminders of how much less my life sucks than many others'.

When you are designing the crotches and bottoms of the male characters in the games, does it turn you on?

What's up with some games having the absolute worst memory leaks? Fallout 3 was terrible. But some games can be the most graphic intense and detailed games out there and when I push the "quit" button in the game I'm back to the desktop with everything running 100% in one or two seconds? Answer me THAT fucker?

Also why was Mass Effect such a pile?

How difficult is it to create new algorithms to make shit run faster. Does it sound like I have any idea what the hell I am talking about?

You work for a shitty game development team.

We have investment bankers on this forum that makes 10x what you make
We have porn stars on this fourm that fucks 10x more then what you fuck

WAT

why did neverwinter nights have such a shitty multiplayer platform?

the dm usage was near impossible & the game glitched hardcore

Aren't really any magic algorithms to it, otherwise every game would already be using them.

I know but do you have to create new ones as games get better? Or do games get better because you create new ones?

as you can probably figure out, I dont know what I am talking about, but find it fascinating.

Question 1:
What makes you think you know anything about making video games in the first place? I mean, you're a cinematic designer, not a 3d artist, not a game designer, not a programmer, not a producer.

Question 2:
I pirated Mass Effect. How does that make you feel knowing I enjoyed (for a few minutes at least) the fruits of your labor without paying your company a penny for it?

edit: yes, this is a troll. But it's also a couple of pretty damned good questions to answer.

Why does the introduction to Dragon Age Origins make it seem like the ability to choose different paths based on dialogue choice is unique and somehow different than everything we've seen for the past 10 years of RPG gaming?
