Harddrive Factory-ID?

Let's say you have a stack of identical hard drives running and don't know which one is which in your OS.

Is there any kind of ID that can be found both via the OS and printed on the casing of the drive itself? So that you could identify a particular one without detaching each and rebooting to figure it out by trial and error.

Would be of great help, thanks.

It might be worth taking a look at the details tab:

Hardware Ids

depending on the manufacturer you may be able to pull serial numbers.

if its a external hba or a backplane, you could use the manufacturer utility to identify the drive(s) via it's status leds.

Look at your Boot INI file, it will tell you which disk and partition your booting from, compare that ID to the HD id assigned by its controller.

There isnt any RAID set up on this thing is there?
