If someone says to you "James been left", what exactly does that mean? I was told that today and basically just looked at the guy and walked away.

This leads me to my next question. Why add the "been" when it's shorter to say, "James left"???

I guess he wanted to make the distinction that some time had passed since James left. If he just said "James left" that doesn't say anything about the timeframe of it all.

For some reason he seems to think that the words been is necessary for the formation of the past tense. Now this is sometimes true with the verb "to have".

Merely inform his of his misconception and he will thank you kindly, or cut you (if he really is PR)
