photochop problem

ive been doing a little photo editing tonight

half way through this ordeal, all of a sudden whenever i select something with the rectangular marquee tool to copy it, it says "no pixels selected" or "no more than 50% of a pixel selected selection edges will not be visible" and it deselects so I cant copy shit

anyone know why this is happening? i already shut down the prog/restarted the comp and it didnt help
 
Well the obvious first question would be, is the layer with the image to be copied selected before you try to use the marquee tool?

edit: ha, what they said ^
 
i know it is a layer problem

the image to be copied is only one layer though

so i dont see how i could be on the wrong layer

you dont have the right layer selected
 
one layer + background or just background?

because if there's ONE layer + background that's technically two layers

probably a layer problem

did anyone mention layers
