[Work] Need a new cell phone. Recommendations?

I haven't purchased a new personal cell phone is over 5 years, so I'm completely out of touch with the technology. I currently have a crappy flip phone with T-Mobile.

I am going to buy a new phone and my work is willing to pay for half of it. Does anyone have an idea of what I should buy? I guess e-mail would be an important feature. I don't care if I have to switch carriers or something. Is there a new iPhone coming out that I should be waiting for? I used a Blackberry at my last job, but I wasn't too thrilled with it (8700c). Does the T-Mobile Sidekick III suck?

i have no idea what your job entails, but just saying "if possible, ..."

I'm responsible for a lot of their shit, so e-mail is necessary.
