The reviews are great for the a550, but the a570 costs about the same and has IS. go with that.

actually i bought it with a package deal on newegg for 180. i really enjoy the camera. takes fairly decent picks. i got it for pictures of the sky, or random party pictures. if your looking for a good cheap camera, this is the one to go for.

I have the S3. Cheap, decent zoom, and does everything I need it to.

how important is IS? Will every picture taken w/o a tripod be blurry?

No, but mid-range digicams suck at higher ISO settings (lots of noise).
The IS technology allows you to shoot at iso 80 or 100 without blurring.
