Should marriage even be a legal institution?

I have been thinking about this in recent times.

Should the government regulate the formality of personal relationships such as this?

Yes it should, with beneficial tax cuts for heterosexual couples as a carrot for baby-making. Regulating it, making it official, combined with a proper cultural upbringing, cuts down on all kinds of nasty things like STD's and monthly abortions.

The best conditions for child rearing are usually given by a stable, two-parent family. Since child rearing is massively important to society, the government should at least make some effort towards encouraging stable, two-parent families.

So yes it should be formalised to the extent that formalised partnerships get certain tax breaks.

No, it shouldn't. Moreover, it has little impact on baby-making. Rich families will have 2 or fewer babies no matter how many tax cuts they are given. Poor families are going to screw like rabbits no matter what and have 3 or 4 or 5 children, when they can't afford to raise 1, let alone 2.

Secondly, as soon as you make a religous institution a public one, you get powerfuly lame shit like 'Gays shouldn't marry.' etc.

Marriage isn't a religious institution by default, moron.

Obviously you've never been to Florida. Or Texas. Or Alabama. Or Georiga.

Moron.

And maybe you're right. But who cares? Most of the population in America believes Marriage to be a religious institution first and a government institution second. As soon as you 'divorce' (lol pun) that conception from the public psyche, we'll talk.

Shouldn't the tax breaks then be established only for couples with children then? Why should the infertile or unwilling get the same benefits?

Remember when your ho cheats on you 4 times and then tells you that she can’t work because she will cheat on you there it really means she loves you.
