password protect a folder in win XP?

Is there a program out there that can password protect a desktop folder? It doesn't have to be something w/ outrageous encryption like PGP, but just good enough so that anyone using windows explorer would need a password to see any files inside the folder.

rar the folder, encrypt the file names and password it - choose no compression.

better than having a program specifically for locking that one folder - especially if you dont want to draw any attention to it.

right, same problem as a zip file. what happens if you want to save a file to it. you can't do "file | save as". you have to go through a ton of extra steps to insert the file into the rar/zip

there was a way to do it by enabling web content in the folder and creating a script that would ask for a password, it was easy to get around, but if you are trying to hide stuff from computer illiterate people it would work.

that's a fairly innovative idea, but it might be a little too complicated. also it's not for me, so a canned solution would be easier to handle

Exactly. You dont need to go through the wizard or menus to add files. Just drop that bitch in.

the file that you've dropped in isn't password protected, only the original content of the zip is. at least that's something i remember from dealing w/ zip files a few years ago.

You could also just mark the folder hidden and not show hidden files and folders. Unless they know there is something to look for, they will likely never notice it.
