I'm gonna plant 4 trees. 2 in my back yard and 2 in my side yard.

North texas, constant water restrictions(although I can water trees for 1 hour a day)

Suggestions.

Look out
 
Fruit trees leave fruit shit all over your lawn. If you want fall color, I suggest bradford pair trees; they also have beautiful white flowers in the early spring.

If you want summer color, plant some crepe myrtles. Don't get pines because the needles will deposit too much acid into the ground below and kill your lawn.

If you want really nice spring color in them, go for a Japanese Maple or Japanese cherry trees.
 
the trick to getting around the water restrictions is to drink lots and lots of water, all the time

and then pee on every tree.

this also lets your neighbor know that it's YOUR tree, not his.
 
Sweetgum trees


'Cuz there's no feeling on earth like gettin pelted with one of those spiked gumballs while mowing the lawn. Or how 'buot stepping on them barefoot?

I meant japanese magnolia:

You can also put daffodils along its crown to look like the one in the pic, but I'd leave it bare.
