xBox Mod Help

So I saw a thread recently that reminded me it's time to mod my xbox. I know www.xbox-scene.com is supposed to be the one-stop-shop for all things modding related, but I wondered if anyone here had done it who did it primarily to play MAME-type games and turn it into a media center. How do I know what chip to get, do I have to solder it (which I am not real comfortable in doing in case I fuck something up) or can I clamp on a chip of some kind? What is involved afterwards?

Xbox modding has been around probably since the xbox itself and still it doesn't seem real easy to get into.

I modded my xbox so that I can play burnt games, movies and emulators. It is quite nice. I did a softmod to it though. Here is a tutorial I just found for you http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=28592&forum_id=1

I used the Executer 3 on mine and had to solder wires. If the board is version 1.6 you will have to but 1.5 or earlier will plug in. There is an install disk floating around somewhere that will have everything you want.

Softmodding is the way to go. No soldering necessary. Quick and easy to revert back to regular for online play.

Slayer's Auto-install 2.6 works pretty good to give you everything you need.

I also did softmod with evolution dashboard and xbox media center. It's the greatest thing ever.

yeah just get an auto install and the right splinter cell

do a softmod its way more practical at this point.
