Blackberry admins

Have any of you come across a way to overwrite a Bes policy on the handheld? I have 10 units that we bought and were hooked up to this software providers bes server. His policy settings dont allow them to be used as phones. I called the phone company and their backline support said they have to join that network that manages the policy and then have the company unjoin them to reset the device. When I informed them that the company was out pof business they guy on backline thought someone had a hack on the net to overwrite the policy settings. Has anyone come across this magical thing? Google failed me (or I failed Google)
