is Homeworld vaporware yet?

the original....

Homeworld (came out in 1999)

or

Homeworld: Cataclysm (came out in 2000)

just wondering cause I haven't played either in forever and i don't feel like spending 9 bucks on a game that i paid 40 bucks for YEARS ago but lost the CD for.....so is it vaporware yet?

It's not abandoned. You can pretty much people will still fill servers 15 years from now. The community for that game is pretty Hardcore.

just like broodwars...i'll always be pissed off I lost my CD....i still have the fucking jewelcase :(...i think my ex got the CD in the divorce since i didn't get any of my comp shit cept the crap that was in storage...

i still play the entire series about once a month. it is well worth spending another 10-20 bucks per game on man. back when hw2 just came out i went on hw1 at prime time (mid day pacific time) and there were about 200 games to choose from. starcraft and broodwars are the same way, when the fuck is blizzard ever going to make another one, half of fucking battle.net consists of those 2 games alone.

well i have my SC cd still...but only my BW jewelcase :(

I'm not sure which I pray for more....a Diablo 3 or a StarCraft 2 :p

either way i hope they make it like they did D2 and SC....where when they released it, it ran on shitty comps....i mean when SC came out it ran on like a p166 128m ram....but like p600 512m ram were out then :p so it was cool cause 80% of the comps ppl had could play it....not like 70% of ppl had to upgrade to play it

they have been working on diablo 3 for years, but the original team got partially liquidated and they moved it to a different location with new members. starcraft 3 is yet to be announced in any way or form last i checked. i cant remember exactly, but i believe that blizzard may have directly announced diablo 3, or it was leaked.

general idea of it is here http://www.gamingsteve.com/archives/2006/02/rumor_diablo_ii.php

ed: just checked up on a few good blizzard sources and called a couple friends, seems that starcraft: ghost is taking up all the time they are putting into starcraft right now.

I saw a homeworld2 torrent floating around somewhere like a battlecruiser without a bomber escort. Marine Frigate time, beyhotch!

In late 1998, my friend was walking home from highschool, just like he did every day.

On the side of the road, he found the back of the jewelcase for starcraft. It was in good condition...a little scratched up, but still pretty good.

A couple minutes later, down the road, he found the front of the jewel case in the same condition. Odd find, certainly.

A little further towards his house he finds the cd. No cd key at all, but the cd isn't too scratched, so he takes it home and puts it in his pc. Autoplay pops up and it installs fine, asks for a cd key. He puts in all 2s. (or was it all 3s? I forget) It installs just fine and he played it for a long time.

Later on I installed it, and a couple years later we both bought broodwar out of the bargain bin, and played each other, then copied the broodwar cd's and passed them out at a lan party.

and for the record: "abandonware" doesn't carry any real meaning. It doesn't suddenly become legal to warez a game just because it hasn't been published for a few years.

actually most abandonware sites check with the publisher (if it still exists) and/or coder if they can publish it or not....and if a publisher or coder actually CARES about a 5-10 year old game...they will usually tell the site that is hosting it to take it down and a link where they can purchase the game....as with Spaceward HO 4 for windows....OLD ASS GAME...but you can buy it over the net still...its not abandonware....
