Declaring low value for customs (GST) potential problems?

I went into a hardware shop when i was in Sydney in '02...i didn't think the prices were all that high...maybe i was wrong

yep, its a laptop. apparently this type of stuff is priced super high there. I imagine all the retail stores have to pay full taxes/duties there (to get the regular stuff manufactured here) so the stores have to mark up accordingly.

To give you an indication, the sub $1000 budget laptop is only just starting to appear, but that's AFTER rebates.
