Firefox tweaks?

Anytime someone posts any .gif my firefox chugs like mad, like when people posts those huge smileys etc. I notice IE or opera do not seem to do this and was wondering if there is some tweak or if something is by default making this happen..

My FF is fine with all gifs, except the giant ones, takes a few secs to scroll past them.

Yeah this is my biggest problem with Firefox I think. I usually just adblock those smileys/gifs and go on my way, they aren't funny anyway.

Same, I chuckled once or twice at the giant brow one, otherwise they just suck.
