maybe because linksys was in seriously financial trouble due to their crappy product so cisco bought them!!!

seriously though, what's a good price for that WRT54G router?

Its a very long story but to make it short:

Linksys makes firmware that used GPL software.
People found out about this and started shit
Linksys being the good people released code.
People find out the hardware can do a lot more than the firmware was allowing
guy startes to update firmware and make it better
A lot of people use it and everything is great
guy starts to think he can make some $$ and starts to charge for firmware igorning GPL
people get mad and start to release the software claming its under GPL
guy says the firmware is going to call home to see who is leaking
it keeps going on and on

I use the Linksys ones and I got those boosted antennae for it....works awesome all around my house
