OEM vs Retail purchases - AMD

I am looking at a new processor, but I don't know if I want to spend the extra $64 for a retail processor....If I receive an OEM part is it basically without warranty?

I know that the retail processors come with 3 years warranty. Anything at all on an OEM part?

Uh, I don't know where you buy your stuff but the price difference between OEM and retail is NOWHERE near being $64. The difference is at most about $10, and sometimes the OEM processor actually costs LESS than the retail.

$163 - OEM Athlon 64 3000+:

I'm willing to bet you're looking at two different processors and you don't even realize it. That's why you have a $64 price difference.

OEM should always be the same or less than retail. The reason I didn't respond earlier is because the FX processors have around a $60 difference in price between OEM and retail. Why he would want to waste money on an FX, I don't know. Guess there's money to burn. I couldn't give two shits about any kind of warranty (but then again, this is a 600-800 processor we're talking about), because I've never had one go bad/broken. But I do like the retail HSF on my 64 3000+. However, for 65 bucks I'm sure there are better ones out there.

Btw, I *think* OEM procs have a 30 day warranty, but it could be a year or something. I'd check AMD's site.

I opted for the OEM processor. Couldn't justify the extra cash...Turns out that I did indeed click on the wrong link for my comparison. The actually price difference was $30 between a XP3200+ OEM/Retail. Should be fine with the OEM.
