does anyone know of any software to control your cpu a little more? i have a x86 laptop and want to cap it a little lower to reduce heat and battery usage...

If it's an intel chip, search their site for SpeedStep (if your laptop supports it).
If it's an AMD chip, I think you're out of luck. But somebody will probably prove me wrong any minute now.

I'll be checking that out in an attempt to improve battery life on mine as well.

amd? try vcool - was a bit unstable though for me

don't throttle my p classes
