There are four men who want to cross a bridge. They all begin on the same side. You have 17 mins to get them all across to the other side. It is nighttime and there is 1 flashlight. A maximum of 2 people can cross at one time. And any party who crossess one of the 2 people must have the flash light. The flash light must be walked back and forth, it can not be passed or thrown. Each man walks at a different speed. A pair must walk together at the rate of the slower mans pace.

Man #1 takes 1 min to cross.
Man #2 takes 2 mins to cross.
Man #3 takes 5 mins to cross.
Man #4 takes 10 mins to cross.

For example. If man #1 and man #4 walk across first 10 mins have elapsed. If man #4 returns with the flashlight a total of 20 mins have passed and you failed the mission.

1. Man 1 crosses with Man 2 (2 min)
2. Man 1 returns (3 min)
3. Man 3 crosses with Man 4 (13 min)
4. Man 2 returns (15 min)
5. Man 1 crosses with Man 2 (17 min)

Man1(1min) and Man2(2min) walk across first bringing the total to 2 minutes. Then Man1(1) walks the flashlight back, total 3 minutes. Man3(5)and Man4(10) walk across, total 13 minutes. Man2(2) walks the light back, total 15 minutes. Man2(2)and Man1(1)walk across, total and answer 17 minutes.
