Linux question regarding apt-get

When running an update / upgrade via apt-get, I get this message:

The following packages have been kept back
gaim glade2 grip gstreamer-plugins gthumb libmrproject mrproject xawtv
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 removed and 8 not upgraded.

From what I understand, those packages aren't installed because it knows that I'm missing a dependancy (yeah, there are other reasons, but that seems to be most common, anyhow).

But if I'm missing a dependancy, how did the bastards get installed in the first place? *shrugs* Anyhow, I assume I should be worried about it.

the ones on your system are as new/newer than the ones on the mirror list?, I got that messege when i did apt-get upgrade gaim

don't be using no damn apt-get...

do it yo-self foo!

You will be better acquainted with your machine and will thank yourself for it later. :D

btw, you using debian? if so, disregard my ramblings... :smokin:

Nah, just RedHat primarily. I honestly don't know of any fast and efficient way of manually checking ALL of my packages for updates, though.
