ive had heat problems in the past

this seems almost exactly like that

but yet i cant belive that would be it

is it like 80% chance of being the software?s

my comp used to do the same thing

i could never fix it so i gave up

and then later it worked perfectly for not apparent reason

so i guess i'll just shut up now

Restarting randomly in the middle of doing stuff...hmmmm.
I'm thinking it's a bad power supply, but i could be wrong.
Most of the time, that's the culprit when you just restart randomly with no warning.
Unlikely that software is causing it, unless it's the drivers you are using for vidcard n' stuff.
So re-install video drivers & try a different power supply.

i can guarantee you its not the powersupply

its a 3 month old antec

video drivers shouldnt corrupt all of a sudden but maybe

Just 'cuz it's new does not mean it's immune from going boink.
I've seen a couple brand spanking new PSUs crap out for no apparent reason.

But then again, you are there and i am not.

Heat, power, or bad RAM would be my guesses, especially if it's just rebooting and not throwing up a blue screen or an error.

bad memory... definitely. test them individually. if you only have one dimm, then borrow one from somebody.

edit: just saw that the psu is new. check the voltages. if they are okay, see above.

Hey, what MOBO you have? Abit and a few other companies had problems with bad capacitors on boards made a few years ago. Bad caps will create some pretty strange symptoms, often mimicking other problems. On one machine, the video horizontal size would jump around a few times a minute, then be fine for 20.. On another the machine would spontaniously reboot, and in a friends, it wouldnt boot at all sometimes..

Open up the case and see if any of em are bubbled up. Especially around the power connector. They should all be flat on top, if not they're bad. I just replaced 3 in one of my machine, and am doing a friends soon. Caps are ~70 cents a piece, but sometimes a pain to replace. There are a few places that specialize in replacing bad caps in mobos (around 20$) and will even sell you a kit to do it yourself.

I got my replacement caps from www.digikey.com

it is ABIT, and i do have a choice for auto shutdown, but its disabled

also none of the caps have fucked up

if it was the ram i wouldnt be able to type to you right now

so far its holding stable, the power supply or heat is the only things it could be

im going to try to run warcraft, if that makes it restart ive found the problem
