random spiking/redjacking

so i have this little issue where i ping fine for a while, then at random spike to 4/5000 ms. this happens totally at random and normally every 2-3 minutes for about 15-30 seconds at a time. Its really hard to peg down because i run tests on my line and the results are good, because it just happens that i didnt spike during the test. happens alot during gaming, maybe 10-20 times a map for about 5-15 seconds at a time.

things i have tried to remedy this problem
swapped NICs
reinstall OS
swap ports on hub
reset modem
route -f
changed NIC slot (PCI)
ran adaware
virus scan
NIMDA scan
re-install tribes/tribes2

Heres my PC/Conn stats
Intel celeron 833
DLINK 10/100 NIC
Windows XP
640MB RAM
Sympatico HSE (dsl)

so like, all u guruz out there, plz help :(

I'd blame your NIC for that, since it seems like you've tried everything else.

Drop a $20 on a nice Intel 10/100 NIC at NewEgg.

i had a Netgear NIC in here before this one and it was doing the same thing. if you think thats still the case ill be more than happy to get an Intel one if it'll solve my problem.

Sure i did :\
