Hey I just converted 80kbps WMA format to 192 mp3 format... umm is there much of a difference in quality? Especially since I converted from 80kbps... will my 192kbps mp3s suck?

wma is basically half of mp3 size, but keeps its quality. a promise microsoft kept.

however, there will be a little loss of quality no matter what format you convert to. wma and mp3 are lossly compressions, so you will always loss a little quality when converting. it's nothing noticible to most human ears though.

Converting from 80 to 192 kbps with lossy compression is ultimately pointless. You can't recover what was already lost in the first compression, so you're just adding filesize with unused information.

If the source was ogg or something, it might make a little more sense.

Minidisc players are perfect examples of how bloated mp3, and even redbook audio are.

you can fit 74 minutes of crystal clear, top of the line sound on a minidisc because it filters out all the shit humans CANT hear, while retaining everything you can hear.
