I'm tempted at setting a goal of running a mile in X time, but don't really know how low I should set the X.
I'm currently 225 lbs and i'm naturally built with a large chest, pussy lower legs. From being fat, I have good sized quads.
I'm not in shape.
I have 3 months.. what's a good goal for 3 months.
amRam 05-07-2004, 01:50 AM about 40 seconds if you're good
four minutes tops
if you're really outta shape + still losing weight, maybe 9-10 mins
but ideally, around 5 or 6 minutes i believe.
in 3 months, you should aim for the 7-8 minute range, i think.
haniblecter 05-07-2004, 01:51 AM I think most regular joes can do it in 8.
avg fatty can do it in about 3:30
addps4cat 05-07-2004, 01:51 AM try running a mile first and seeing what time you get and then work your way down from there

Yea right. Thats HS track team quality, IE, not normal.

9-10 minutes, thats just way too long :P
Wulfen 05-07-2004, 01:52 AM In 3 months? I'd say 6-7 minutes.
Snipes 05-07-2004, 01:52 AM uhhh, id say 6 minutes
a lap under a minute is doing pretty good for a skinny person, so id say 6 (for a mile) is a good target for you
Kurayami 05-07-2004, 01:53 AM Anything over 3:01 is unacceptable.

good high school times are at least sub 5
BigWorm 05-07-2004, 01:57 AM I went from not being able to run a mile to 5-6 miles @ 8-9 min/mile pace. Took me about 3 months, but it can be done.
Yaason 05-07-2004, 01:57 AM 8 is good. 7 is in shape. anything under that means you suck. for you i would try something under 15 minutes. if you cant do that try sweatin to the oldies
kyuss 05-07-2004, 01:58 AM are you a member of a decent gym? try the running machines there; they will display your current mile times according to what ever speed you are running @. take a week or so to figure out where you are at.
AgentOrange 05-07-2004, 02:00 AM You just need to find a comfortable pace for yourself. Push yourself, but not to the point of causing a stress fracture or shin splints.
kyuss 05-07-2004, 02:04 AM on the topic of running: for the last 1.5 months i have been running around 5 times a week for about 40 mins. i recently slowed my pace by about 20%. my jogs have become much more enjoyable (i never feel out of breath), and prolonged due to a slower pace. after reading some info on aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise, it is better (if burning fat is your goal) to keep the slower/longer pace, than the faster/shorter pace.

Tru. I was shotput, discus, java.
We gotta run in one event though, so they'd stick the fat asses like me on the mile and call the event a washout in meets.
