[T:V] 64 Bit Instructions and other server stuff.

With AMD releasing their Hammer processor later this year.. there was an article relating epic releasing a updated unreal server in 64 bit..

is this going to be true for T:V since they share the same platform?

oh and I forgot to ask this question on TW chat.. if the new game supports Dual Processors..

The Opteron server chip came out last month and porting for several games is already done. I would expect it will support 64bit, at least on the server side.

Got Haggis?

Straight from Karl Burdack, our lead programmer, although the T:V dedicated server should run on 64-bit CPUs, it won't take advantage of them.

Haggis to the rescue.

When in doubt, consult the minced sheep organs boiled in sheep stomach.

Yummy! :bigthumb:

LOL all 32 bit programs will run on the Opteron. This isnt news. It would be nice if they ported to 64 bit along with all the other UT engine games though

Ya, why not take advantage of new technology?

Because it's not necessarily that simple. Often times you end up rearchitecting your design when you change bitwidths. It's not a trivial conversion.

ok so no 64 bit..

but how about dual processors :)

um, wouldn't dual processor work anyway?

Yeah but working is not the same as taking advantage of. You need special instructions on how to throttle the process between two CPUs I believe?

Eh I can run T2 on dual processor machines.. but they don't take the advantage of it..

Yeah under winblows is by setting affinity levels.
