WoW, Blizzard helps bust drug dealer

Submitted by: FOURSTAR @ 09:54 PM | Friday, January 1, 2010 | (url: http://kokomopers...)

Man deals drugs in the USA and becomes part of an investigation. He skips town to Canada with local police and US Marshals looking for him. Tips from friends tell the detective, a World of Warcraft player himself, that he often played "witches and warlock" aka WoW. Detective sends information to Blizzard to see if they can help. Months later they send back information including his IP address, billing address and what server he frequents. The detective contacted the US Marshals, who contacted the Mounties who deported him to Minneapolis where the Marshals picked him up.

Morale of the story, don't play World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft creator Blizzard has won $6m (3.36m) in damages from the makers of a software 'bot'.

The damages award comes after Blizzard won the first round of its legal battle against MDY Industries in July 2008.

Blizzard embarked on the case against MDY claiming that the World of Warcraft Glider software produced by the small company infringed its copyright.

The Glider software lets Warcraft players automate many of the repetitive steps the game involves.

As if the game wasn't pervasive enough in our PC lives, Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce says they're considering a mobile interface. Don't get all excited about raiding Magtheridon on your iPhone - it's just an idea for chat, mail, and auction interactivity... for now.

World of Whorecraft, renamed Whorecraft and now, oddly enough, Whorelore, is back for its second season. For those of you who missed our feature on this blending of hardcore pornography and World of Warcraft, you should probably read the story, it's really quite fascinating.

World of Warcraft Hits 9 Million Subscribers

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 11:56 AM | Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | (url: http://www.gamasu...)

They don't call it WoW for nothing, talk about a goldmine. 9,000,000 X $14.99 a month = Roughly $135,000,000.00 per month in subscription fees alone, not counting monthly sales of the game. Mountains of cash!

Think they can reduce those fees a little...

Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain to Rock BlizzCon 2007, Plus "I Am Murloc" video

Submitted by: Mr Rabies @ 06:24 PM | Monday, July 16, 2007 | (url: http://www.worldo...)

Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain is gracing the mortals in Anaheim, California with another evening of power, majesty, and metal! The group's last non-Azerothian performance took place at BlizzCon 2005, where they received a hero's welcome and even had the multi-platinum recording artists, The Offspring, close the show for them. Now, having leveled past their previous name -- Level 60 Elite Tauren Chieftain -- the crunching chords and pounding war drums of the newly dubbed Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain will once again be echoing throughout the Anaheim Convention Center's main arena at BlizzCon 2007

Wish I could attend Blizzcon :( A new video from L70ETC is always a great thing, though.

WoW: SSC / TK Attunements Removed

Submitted by: Rayn @ 12:48 PM | Tuesday, June 19, 2007 | (url: http://www.mmo-ch...)

Post from a Blue:After a lot of thought and deliberation, weve decided to remove the attunement requirements to enter Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep: The Eye. While many of our attunements in the Burning Crusade have been good progression checks, a few of the attunements have turned out to cause unnecessary stress on guilds either doing the content or attempting to do the content. With Black Temple and Battle for Mount Hyjal thriving, we want to encourage (rather than prevent) new guilds and raid groups to attempt Serpentshrine and TK. We are going to leave the current attunement quests in the game so that players can still engage in the challenge and the lore of those quests should they choose to.
