PlayStation "Home" Delayed again

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 09:24 AM | Wednesday, April 23, 2008 | (url: http://www.msnbc....)

"Home" had originally been scheduled for launch in late 2007 but was delayed until early 2008. Now Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. plans to open up an early version of the virtual universe in the second half of 2008.

The delay is another setback to Sony, which has much riding on the PS3 but faces fierce competition from Microsoft's XBox 360 and Nintendo's Wii.

Blu-ray Player Prices Hit 2008 Highs

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 10:38 AM | Wednesday, March 12, 2008 | (url: http://www.tgdail...)

Pricewatch - Blu-ray Disc players from Samsung, Sony and Sharp are now the most expensive they have been all year, presumably because HD DVD's exit from the high-def disc arena has removed some of Blu-ray's pricing pressure.

Make way for another corporate reaming...

Blu-ray to win in 2008, HD DVD price cuts are "useless resistance"

Gartner, the fat lady of research firms, is singing HD DVD's swan song this morning.
"Gartner believes that Toshiba's price-cutting may prolong HD DVD's life a little, but the limited line-up of film titles will inflict fatal damage on the format." ... "Gartner expects that, by the end of 2008, Blu-ray will be the winning format in the consumer market, and the war will be over."

Why PS3's power will shine in 2008

Submitted by: GlassShadow @ 07:18 AM | Sunday, January 6, 2008 | (url: http://www.gamesr...)

Fallout 3s Executive Producer Todd Howard - from Oblivion developer Bethesda - understands that PS3 has more than enough power. No single game is using it all yet - not even close. Back at E3 in July 07, Mercenaries 2 Lead Designer Scott Warner claimed their game was only using 30% of PS3s power - while EAs Chief Visual Officer Glenn Entis claimed their launch games like Fight Night 3 only tapped 20%.

Some (big name) developers are starting to praise the machine (accessibility/performance/support) than rubbish it's architecture, with some developers already claiming to have doubled the performance already with their future engines.

God destroys man's PS3 with dust

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 07:50 PM | Saturday, November 10, 2007 | (url: http://consumeris...)

According to Ive's story, he sent in his faulty system to be repaired, only to be told that his warranty had been voided by the massive amounts of dust that had accumulated within the casing.

When asked what part of the warranty says that a dusty system cannot be replaced, his helpful customer service representative told him that dust collection could either be considered customer abuse, or an act of God.

Xbox 360 Tops PS3 in Japan

Submitted by: KillerONE @ 12:21 PM | Friday, November 9, 2007 | (url: http://xbox360.ig...)

Microsoft is having one impressive week over in Japan. In addition to grabbing the second slot in the Media Create top 50 sales charts with Ace Combat 6, the 360 sold 17,673 hardware units in one week alone. With the new sales, the system has at last crossed the 500,000 sold mark, which is something that the original Xbox never did.

But more than that, this is what we're sure will keep people talking. The 17,673 hardware units was enough for the 360 to beat both the PS2 and PS3! Yes, the 360 is now the second hottest console in Japan (next to the Wii).

Sony unviels new PS3 ad campaign TV spots

Submitted by: houston @ 02:02 PM | Thursday, November 1, 2007 | (url: http://blog.us.pl...)

The Playstation 3 ad campaign has undergone an overhaul starting with some new TV spots that highlight a small selection of their first party titles. The new ads are pretty visually impressive and include a tagline at the end stating that the system "starts at $399" which I assume is a direct response to the negative press regarding the high price of the console at launch.

Sony agrees to sell PS3 chip lines to Toshiba

Sony Corp said Thursday that it had agreed to sell its production lines for the powerful computer chip at the heart of its struggling PlayStation 3 game console to rival Toshiba Corp.

The deal, reportedly worth over one billion dollars, is part of Sony's efforts to recoup its huge investment in the PS3 and stem losses at its game unit in the face of fierce competition from rival Nintendo's Wii.

Sony is now focusing its efforts on reviving its core electronics business including products such as flat-panel televisions and digital cameras.

New 360 Bundles For Christmas?

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 12:05 PM | Thursday, September 27, 2007 | (url: http://www.next-g...)

Best Buys website is now listing two new Xbox 360 bundles that are expected to ship for the holiday season.

The most interesting suggestion, however, is a new Xbox 360 Core model that will arrive "at the end of October," sporting a HDMI port, wireless controller, 256MB memory card, and five XBLA arcade games (Boom-Boom Rocket, Pac-man, Uno, Feeding Frenzy, and Luxor 2) on a single disc. Even better is that, according to rumors, the package will carry the standard Core price of $279.99.

PlayStation Home Delayed Until Spring 2008

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 01:34 PM | Thursday, September 20, 2007 | (url: http://news.yahoo...)

While the Sony-oriented keynote at the Tokyo Game Show held mostly positive words with the announcement of the DualShock 3 and new PSP Remote Play features, one piece of disappointment for those PS3 gamers wanting a different online experience is that PlayStation Home will be delayed until spring 2008.
