The Humble Indie Bundle

Submitted by: NeutralX2 @ 07:31 PM | Wednesday, May 5, 2010 | (url: http://www.wolfir...)

Wolfire is running a charity-driven pay-what-you-want deal for a bundle of Indie Games. The games, which support PC, Mac, & Linux are: World of Goo, Aquaria, Lugaru HD, & Penumbra: Overture. Act soon though, it ends on May 11th.

The Humble Indie Bundle is a unique kind of bundle that we are trying out.

Pay what you want. If you bought these five games separately, it would cost around $80 but were letting you set the price!

All of the games work great on Mac, Windows, and Linux. We didnt want to leave anyone out.

There is no middle-man. You can rest assured that 100% of your purchase goes directly to the developers and non-profits as you specify (minus credit card fees).

We dont use DRM. When you buy these games, they are yours. Feel free to play them without an internet connection, back them up, and install them on all of your Macs and PCs freely.

Your contribution supports the amazing Childs Play charity and Electronic Frontier Foundation. By default, the amount is split equally between the seven participants (including Childs Play and EFF), but you can tweak the split any way youd like.

Department of Defense Buys 2,2000 PS3s

Apparently the Department of Defense believes that PS3s are a better value when it comes to supercomputers than IBM products specifically designed for the purpose. Granted recent price drops probably didn't hurt in justifying a 2,200 console order either.

This isn't the first time that the DoD is using PS3 consoles for supercomputing. In fact, these 2,200 units are going to be added to an existing Linux cluster of 336 PS3s used by the United States Air Force. According to Justification Review Documents, the purchase is all about getting the best value out the DoD's budget:

With respect to cell processors, a single 1U server configured with two 3.2GHz cell processors can cost up to $8K while two Sony PS3s cost approximately $600. Though a single 3.2 GHz cell processor can deliver over 200 GFLOPS, whereas the Sony PS3 configuration delivers approximately 150 GFLOPS, the approximately tenfold cost difference per GFLOP makes the Sony PS3 the only viable technology for HPC applications.

I'm all for balancing cost and features, but isn't it just a bit curious that someone thought to save on upgrading the supercomputer just after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released?

The first week since launch over 500,000 new players have registered for fantasy MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), in North America, Europe and the Oceanic territories. EA's most highly pre-ordered PC title, WAR has now become the fastest-selling new MMO of all time.

""In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG," said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. "We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life."

This article serves only one purpose: test three of the industry's most coveted coolers. Not very long ago Benchmark Reviews published the article Best CPU Cooler Performance - Q1 2008. At the time, the effort we gave in producing our test results seemed well worth the trouble. However, months later we see that there's a lot more to a cooler than just measuring performance with the same common fan. So after even more testing, we now have a full understanding of each CPU coolers individual characteristics and deliver the results to you. Benchmark Reviews is proud to present a three-way fight to the finish: The OCZ Vendetta 2 vs. Thermalright's Ultra-120 eXtreme vs. Xigmatek's HDT-S1283.

Your basic initial attack is fire, sound familiar? It's not. I was thinking "big deal, another fire mage" nope. First of all, when you torch an enemy and they grab their head, visually write in pain, audibly scream in agony omigod adrenaline rush. I'm sorry to my fellow healers, but there was joy...

Age of Conan Beta After 24 Hours

I rolled myself a Priestess of Mitra. So lets start with character creation. Overall I thought the variety of options for customizing my character was quite high. I wont say Im in love with the final product. I guess guys will be thrilled with the ability to make a hot body for the female avatars. I was not so thrilled with my best efforts to make a cute face. I realize this is not a huge issue, I am merely providing feedback in the order in which I experienced each aspect. I know the Hyborian life was a tough one so the people probably werent overly cute anyway. This was only cosmetic and not a big deal.
