Half a million players enlist in the armies of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

Submitted by: USMC*Enima @ 12:13 PM | Saturday, October 4, 2008 | (url: http://www.warham...)

The first week since launch over 500,000 new players have registered for fantasy MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), in North America, Europe and the Oceanic territories. EA's most highly pre-ordered PC title, WAR has now become the fastest-selling new MMO of all time.

""In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG," said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. "We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life."

Orange Box PC Outsells Consoles

Submitted by: Evil Light Bulb @ 11:14 AM | Friday, February 22, 2008 | (url: http://www.tomsga...)

In regards to PC sales being stronger than consoles...

"Rob Wright: How much stronger, exactly?

Doug Lombari: I'd say significantly stronger, at least a two-digit percentage increase over the console sales. And that includes Steam sales, retail sales, and now individual sales of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2. So when you take the PC numbers for The Orange Box a la carte, they're significantly higher."

In the same vein Company of Heroes developer, Josh Mosqueira, noted that total Steam sales of CoH were roughly equivalent to the number of copies sold at Best Buy. Unfortunately, he also went on to state that the number of people downloading patches is 'substantially' greater than the number of people that have purchased the game.

Microsoft is having one impressive week over in Japan. In addition to grabbing the second slot in the Media Create top 50 sales charts with Ace Combat 6, the 360 sold 17,673 hardware units in one week alone. With the new sales, the system has at last crossed the 500,000 sold mark, which is something that the original Xbox never did.

But more than that, this is what we're sure will keep people talking. The 17,673 hardware units was enough for the 360 to beat both the PS2 and PS3! Yes, the 360 is now the second hottest console in Japan (next to the Wii).

Title says it all. Top place goes to Madden which I have no love for, but the list is quite interesting none the less. The Analysis section has some interesting graphs of when games were released, and share per platform.
