Evolve goes F2P

In a message posted on their website, Turtle Rock Studios developer MacMan announced that the asymmetric FPS game Evolve will be going free-to-play, with beta starting July 7th. The new update, dubbed "Stage 2" features a complete rework of classes and monsters, with a focus on the HUNT game mode.

Players who purchased Evolve prior to "Stage 2" will receive "Founder" status and all unlocks, keeping the content they've earned already.

Battlefield Heros Covertly Launches

EA has finally launched Battlefield Heroes, the free-to-play, ad-supported, cartoon online shooter. Although it missed a summer 2008 launch, the games been out in beta form for some time.

DICE designed Battlefield Heroes to be accessible to anyone, opting for cartoon visuals that can scale well on most old hardware. The game client is small and runs through the EA online website. Players can use real-world currency to purchase a variety of in-game items and bonuses, including the ability to "level up faster [or] get Valor Points (VP) faster," new clothes, "ultra exclusive limited-edition items," and special emotes.

Id Software's Quake Live has been in development in closed beta for nearly 7 months now, and will enter Open Beta stage for everyone to play in just four days on February 24th.

Jumpgate Evolution: Officially Announced

While they have been hinting about this deal for some time, NetDevil has now officially announced their plans for Jumpgate Evolution, a new remake of their first MMO project. The space based title will be getting a massive graphical revamp along with lots of other new features. The game's official web site has now lauched where you can already sign up for the game's upcoming beta test (which doesn't have a date yet) along with the first screenshots from the game.

IGN posted this a couple days ago, but I just saw it. They have a hands-on preview of Frontlines: Fuel of War and some movies up on their site. With this, Crysis and Quakewars, it's going to be a good year for FPS gamers.
