The next step in these improvements is to establish a new direct sign-up system for developers to put their games on Steam. This new path, which were calling Steam Direct, is targeted for Spring 2017 and will replace Steam Greenlight. We will ask new developers to complete a set of digital paperwork, personal or company verification, and tax documents similar to the process of applying for a bank account. Once set up, developers will pay a recoupable application fee for each new title they wish to distribute, which is intended to decrease the noise in the submission pipeline.
While we have invested heavily in our content pipeline and personalized store, were still debating the publishing fee for Steam Direct. We talked to several developers and studios about an appropriate fee, and they gave us a range of responses from as low as $100 to as high as $5,000. There are pros and cons at either end of the spectrum, so wed like to gather more feedback before settling on a number.
Will it stop the deluge of "games" (i.e. hastily cobbled together asset flips with no real content) from flooding the store? Probably not.

In a message posted on their website, Turtle Rock Studios developer MacMan announced that the asymmetric FPS game Evolve will be going free-to-play, with beta starting July 7th. The new update, dubbed "Stage 2" features a complete rework of classes and monsters, with a focus on the HUNT game mode.
Players who purchased Evolve prior to "Stage 2" will receive "Founder" status and all unlocks, keeping the content they've earned already.

From the article: "We're happy to announce that as of Saturday at 11:07am PT, Midair has been officially Kickstarted! Thanks to you we smashed through our goal, hitting TWO stretch goals and earning over $128,000 in pledges!
From the dev team to you, THANK YOU.
When Will I Get My Rewards?
We'll keep in touch regarding timelines for rewards, but definitely keep an eye on your Kickstarter inbox and these updates to make sure you see the latest. Also be aware that we will be sending out surveys to get additional information (like t-shirt voting and selection, keychain selection, etc.). As always, we can't send you anything unless your payment goes through, so ensure your details are correct and your payment has been processed.
For those of you who pledged at the Instant Access tier or higher, here are the next steps for us and you:
Make sure your payment went through - some banks in particular will hold your payment to Kickstarter.com, so if you're having troubles, make sure you've cleared everything with them.
We're sending keys and instructions out in bulk when the most people have had time to fix payment issues and we can get everything on our end squared away. The plan is to do this by Saturday, June 11th, but if there are unforeseen issues this may be delayed an additional week. We'll let you know either way. And pay attention to your email!
If you have any questions, let us know! Send us a Kickstarter message or post on our forums.
Thank you again for your support, and we'll see you soon in Midair!"

If you call your PC maker to troubleshoot a Windows 10 machine, dont be surprised if the advice is to roll back to an earlier version.
In a pair of undercover tech support calls, representatives from HP and Dell both suggested uninstalling Windows 10 as a blanket solution to problems, Laptop Mag reports.
The call to Dell was most baffling, as the caller was merely asking how to invert the scrolling direction on a laptops touchpad. This is an easy fix with the same procedure across all Windows versions, yet the representative suggested rolling back to Windows 8.1 as a solution, saying there are a lot of glitches in Windows 10.
An HP support rep also suggested reverting to Windows 8.1 after the computers CoolSense temperature control utility failed to work properly with the new operating system. I really dont recommend [that] customers upgrade to Windows 10, the representative said. (HPs support then tried to sell a $40 USB recovery key when the rollback itself didnt work.)
Microsoft is pushing Windows 10 more aggressively than any Windows version yet, with free upgrades for consumers through next fall. In 2016, the company will also categorize Windows 10 as a Recommended upgrade, so the installation will begin automatically on many users machines. But if these tech support calls are any indication, some users may be told to revert right back to an older version for even the slightest problems.
Why this matters: While these calls are just anecdotes, both HP and Dell confirmed to Laptop Mag that as a policy their support reps sometimes suggest rolling back to an earlier Windows version. The problem, as seen in the case with Dell, is that downgrading might not actually solve the problem, and is merely a catch-all for when the support rep is out of his or her depth. These anecdotes are as much an indictment of tech support by phone as they are an issue for Microsoft as it tries to make Windows 10 the dominant PC operating system.

Battlefield 2 is no longer needed with this standalone v1.3 release.
"In addition to becoming standalone, v1.3 brings many bug fixes, performance improvements, and tweaks to make the game more enjoyable overall. There are also quite a few new features to enjoy as well."
Yea, it's way old, but it can still be quite fun if you hook up with the right squad. It's FREE, just download, install, and create an account to check it out..

Halo Online will launch this spring, only in Russia. It's designed to run well on lower-end PCs. There's no campaign mode, but the game is set on a secret UNSC space station called "Anvil" where Spartans train together and test new technology.
During the upcoming closed beta, the developers will monitor and adjust gameplay, features, and the in-game economy.
There are no plans to bring Halo Online to the Xbox One.

Team Fortress 2 has shown that people will pay good money for virtual headclothes that sit upon the crown of the cartoon murderers they control in first person. Now Valve are trying something daring: seeing if people will pay for non-hatsnot in the game, but in real life. The TF2 Workshop is now accepting community designs for new lines of merchandise to be sold through the Valve Store.
As per the regular TF2 item popularity contest, users can upload their designs to the Workshop to be judged by the community. "Well curate the top-rated entries," write Valve, "and the best of the best designs will be made available as official merchandise at the Valve Store and various online retailers. You won't just be ensuring your place in history: You'll also get paid a handsome royalty for every unit sold."

FRAG LIKE IT'S 1999: TOXIKK plays as if today's military shooters never existed. The game combines the simple and intuitive mechanics of old-school FPS giants with a fresh setting, slick graphics and our vision to carefully evolve the genre with some new ideas elaborated with Arena-FPS enthusiasts.
Designed as a spiritual successor to the fast paced arena shooters of the late 90s and early 2ks, there is no leveling, no skill-trees, no perks, no cover systems, no classes, no configurable weapons and no iron sight aiming.

Today we announced a reduction in our workforce at SOE. As a company, our goal is to focus on our core expertise of MMO games and as part of these efforts, we had to make the difficult decision to eliminate positions to help reduce costs, streamline our employee base and strategically align resources towards our current portfolio of games and upcoming slate of MMOs, including EverQuest Next Landmark and EverQuest Next. We deeply value our employees and are grateful for all theyve contributed to our company and games. They will be missed by colleagues and friends, and we wish them well in the future.
Out of respect for our employees, we request that you do not discuss personnel matters on our forums. Thank you for your understanding.
