Mona: The Assassin is an unofficial Max Payne 2 expansion featuring 5 original, action-packed levels.

Mona Sax is a contract-killer, a job at which she excels. When a Mafia boss sends his army of mobsters after her, assaulting her hideout and forcing her to flee through the city streets, it gets personal and real nasty.

From an abandoned asylum, through the suburban streets of the Big Apple, to the Mafia social club, unleash her destructive power and make them regret to have ever messed with Mona: The Assassin.

DRM Shuts Down PC Version of Gears of War

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 06:22 AM | Friday, January 30, 2009 | (url: http://arstechnic...)

It seems that the DRM on Gears of War came with a built-in shut off date: the digital certificate for the game was only good until January 28, 2009. Now that the game fails to work unless you adjust your system's clock, what's Epic's response? "We're working on it."

Did Epic assume no one would be playing the title once 2009 came around? It's hard to understand why there would be an end-date hard-coded into the title's DRM, especially one that came less than three years after the game was released. Many PC gamers are leery of any kind of DRM that must dial into a central server to authenticate, wondering what happens if those servers are shut down. Now we knowin this case, the game shipped with DRM that was essentially counting down until the game would cease to work.

Steam Update Adds In-game Web Browsing

Submitted by: Beren @ 06:47 PM | Wednesday, January 14, 2009 | (url: http://www.shackn...)

Now we can browse TW ingame within Steam games. This is kinda handy for a very low effort extension to the Steam platform as so much of the platform uses IE to load the content. There are a bunch of bug fixes in the update as well, but not much else.

Red 5 Studios Video

Submitted by: Colosus @ 01:21 PM | Tuesday, November 4, 2008 | (url: http://www.msnbc....)

A video interview with Red 5 Studios regarding their recruitment process. What's interesting is the amount of footage showing Tribes 1 and Mass Effect. Could this be a hint as to the type of game they are creating?

'The Witcher' Sells Over One Million Units

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 01:51 PM | Sunday, November 2, 2008 | (url: http://www.1up.co...)

CD Projekt RED has announced good news for fans of The Witcher. Not only has epic RPG sold over 1 million units in the past year but if you look closely at the trailer posted above, you will notice what appears to be not only new "unknown" footage featuring our anti-hero Geralt from The Witcher, but other games in development from CD Projekt RED as well.

The company sure has a nice way of thanking their fans too, as just a few weeks ago they released The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, a rerelease full of major upgrades that were provided to existing players for free. Granted, you had to start your game over again, but that was a small price to pay for the new content. According to Michal Kicinski, co-founder of CD Projekt, they are just getting started:

Far Cry 2 to include Spore like DRM

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 10:32 AM | Friday, October 17, 2008 | (url: http://www.1up.co...)

Surely you remember the hoopla caused by Spore's piracy protection -- even Electronic Arts head John Riccitiello wasn't happy with it. Well, get ready to encounter some similar restrictions next week with the PC version Far Cry 2. According to Ubisoft Forum Master "bukowski113," the PC version of the upcoming FPS will contain the same digital rights management courtesy of SecuROM. Luckily though, it will contain a few tweaks giving users a bit more freedom with their installs.

You have five activations on three separate PCs.

Uninstalling the game "refunds" an activation. This process is called "revoke," so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on three systems.

Half a million players enlist in the armies of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

Submitted by: USMC*Enima @ 12:13 PM | Saturday, October 4, 2008 | (url: http://www.warham...)

The first week since launch over 500,000 new players have registered for fantasy MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), in North America, Europe and the Oceanic territories. EA's most highly pre-ordered PC title, WAR has now become the fastest-selling new MMO of all time.

""In just one week we have a half a million people playing WAR online, and the ranks of Order and Destruction are growing at a record-breaking pace for a new MMORPG," said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. "We spent years working to provide players with the most stable, epic, and polished online world we could, but it is the players that have truly brought the Age of Reckoning to life."

Blizzard Wins Suit Againist MMOGlider

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 10:00 AM | Wednesday, October 1, 2008 | (url: http://news.bbc.c...)

World of Warcraft creator Blizzard has won $6m (3.36m) in damages from the makers of a software 'bot'.

The damages award comes after Blizzard won the first round of its legal battle against MDY Industries in July 2008.

Blizzard embarked on the case against MDY claiming that the World of Warcraft Glider software produced by the small company infringed its copyright.

The Glider software lets Warcraft players automate many of the repetitive steps the game involves.

Steam to Begin Supporting Source Mods

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 01:17 PM | Monday, September 29, 2008 | (url: http://storefront...)

As a part of our continuing efforts to support the MOD community, we will begin hosting selected MODs directly on Steam starting next week. The first five MODs to ship on steam will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic. As always, owners of any Source game will be able to download and play all of these MODs for free.

Once installed, these MODs will appear in your "My Games" list and will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, these MODs now take advantage of Steamworks, which provides stat tracking and tighter integration with the Steam community.
