Roof, 22, was found guilty this week of the racist massacre of nine black worshippers as they prayed in a church in Charleston, South Carolina.
Now, his trial is moving on to consider whether or not he should be given the death penalty.
According to a motion he filed, handwritten, the white supremacist killer said he wouldnt be calling on mental health experts to testify because he doesnt believe in psychology.
It is a Jewish invention and does nothing but invent diseases and tell people they have problems when they dont, he wrote separately in a journal.
He also fired his entire legal team and is now going to act as his own lawyer during the death penalty phase of his trial, which starts on January 3.
Roof opened fire on an historic African-American church, the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church, on June 17, 2015.
The same jury that convicted Roof of 33 charges related to the massacre including hate crime and obstruction of religion will soon decide if he is sentenced to life in prison without parole, or death.
In his handwritten note, he said: I will not be calling mental health experts or presenting mental health evidence.
Roofs lawyers unsuccessfully tried to stop him from acting as his own lawyer, warning that he was a high-school dropout and was therefore not best placed to present his own mitigation.
They reportedly feared Roof fired them because he was afraid that embarrassing details relating to himself and his family would be presented in court as evidence, even though it would have been done so in an attempt to spare him a death sentence.

First announced for the big screen in 2014, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Mattel and Parkes+MacDonald/Image Nations upcoming live-action Barbie movie has finally landed a leading lady in Amy Schumer (Trainwreck, Inside Amy Schumer).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schumer will play a misfit living in a land of perfect Barbies who comes to the real world where her being/looking different turns into an asset. The film is said by the trade to be, a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism and identity in the comedic-fantasy vein of Splash, Enchanted or Big.
Although Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult) was previously attached to write the film, the current screenplay comes from Hilary Winston (The LEGO Ninjago Movie, the Bad Teacher TV series). Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele are expected to rewrite the script, and a director is currently being sought.
From princess to president, mermaid to movie star, Barbie has done it all through her more than 150 careers, she has gained valuable experiences and shown her fans that anything is possible for a modern woman. The toy line launched in 1959, and brings in $2 billion dollars annually. The comedic and contemporary film marks the second collaboration between Sony Pictures and Mattel, which are currently developing a film adaptation of Masters of the Universe, based on Mattels popular action figures.
Barbie is being produced by Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal.

Activist and writer Elie Wiesel, the World War Two death camp survivor who won a Nobel Peace Prize for becoming the life-long voice of millions of Holocaust victims, has died, Israel's Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem said on Saturday.
Wiesel, a philosopher, speaker, playwright and professor who also campaigned for the tyrannized and forgotten around the world, was 87.
The Romanian-born Wiesel lived by the credo expressed in "Night," his landmark story of the Holocaust - "to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time."
In awarding the Peace Prize in 1986, the Nobel Committee praised Wiesel as a "messenger to mankind" and "one of the most important spiritual leaders and guides in an age when violence, repression and racism continue to characterize the world."
Wiesel did not waver in his campaign never to let the world forget the Holocaust horror. While at the White House in 1985 to receive the Congressional Gold Medal, he even rebuked U.S. President Ronald Reagan for planning to lay a wreath at a German cemetery where some of Hitler's notorious Waffen SS troops were buried.

Scientists have discovered a large helium gas field in Tanzania.
With world supplies running out, the find is a "game-changer", say geologists at Durham and Oxford universities.
Until now, the precious gas has been discovered only in small quantities during oil and gas drilling.
Using a new exploration approach, researchers found large quantities of helium within the Tanzanian East African Rift Valley.
They say resources in just one part of the Rift valley are enough to fill more than a million medical MRI scanners.
Prof Chris Ballentine, of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, said: "This is a game-changer for the future security of society's helium needs and similar finds in the future may not be far away."
Prof Jon Gluyas, of the Department of Earth Sciences at Durham University, who collaborated on the project, said the price of helium had gone up 500% in the last 15 years.
"Helium is the second most abundant element in the Universe but it's exceedingly rare on Earth," Prof Gluyas told BBC News.
"Moreover, any helium that you do find if you're not careful, will escape, just like a party balloon it rises and rises in the atmosphere and eventually escapes the Earth's gravity altogether.
"It's used in a whole array of key instrumentation, particularly medical MRI scanning and so on, and so we have to keep finding more."
The researchers say volcanic activity in the Rift Valley releases helium buried in ancient rocks, which rises up and becomes trapped in shallower gas fields.
The amount of helium is estimated at more than 54 billion cubic feet - which could potentially meet global demand for several years.
The next step is to find the best place to drill to exploit the gas and bring it to the surface.

Kick-Ass is coming back to comic book store shelves soon but not the way you remember it. Writer and co-creator Mark Millar has announced that a new Kick-Ass book is coming early next year, and this time, its not teenager Dave Lizewski who becomes the real-world superhero. Instead, the new Kick-Ass is a new, black female character. Kick-Ass: The New Girl will also be based out of a different city than the original series, with an all-new supporting cast as well.
Kick-Ass: The New Girl will be drawn by series co-creator John Romita Jr. who has committed to work on the book for three years, according to Millar. Also re-launching at the same time will be a new Hit-Girl series, which will be drawn by Rafael Albuquerque. Millar will script the first story arc, and then former Deadpool and Wolverine writer Daniel Way will take over as the regular author. It is unknown if the Hit-Girl of this new series is someone new under the mask as well. Both books are expected to launch in January, and both will be the first monthly, ongoing series from the Millarworld imprint.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Millar has this to say about the change in the character: Comics is not short of white males aged around 30; that demographic seems pretty well catered for in popular culture. I dont think many blonde white guys around 30 feel under-represented when they pick up comic or watch a movie. Being older or younger or female or African-American just seems more interesting to me as a writer because this character is quite unique and opens up story possibilities that havent been tried in almost eighty years of superhero fiction. This woman has a completely different take on Kick-Ass.

A group of angry men in Istanbul vandalized a record store and beat up customers for having a listening party and drinking beer to celebrate the release of Radioheads new album in the Turkish capital during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Up to 20 men identified as radical Islamists used pipes and bottles as weapons, according to witnesses. The attackers also reportedly threatened to burn down the record store with all the people inside.
A video account of the attack was posted by the store owner on the Reddit website. The camera was originally set up to stream the Radiohead event, but unwittingly captured the attack.
The owner gave the following account:

We were beaten by more than 20 men with pipes in their hands, beer bottles were broken on our heads; I dont even know how we made it out. I will share the details later guys. Just hoping that no one will die.
In the video, a group of screaming men is seen entering the store and eventually violently forcing everyone out. The group then comes back in and begins smashing up the equipment. The attackers are also seen swinging their hands and trying to beat up the customers.
The brutal assault continued outside the store, but the camera angle only allowed a limited view.[/quote]

A New York City man was reportedly physically assaulted by a stranger on the street due to his passing resemblance to actor Shia LaBeouf, according to a report in Gothamist. Mario Licato says he was exiting the Delancey Street F train station on Manhattans Lower East Side at around 8 PM on Saturday when he was unexpectedly punched in his LaBeouf-esque face and knocked briefly unconscious. I was walking up the stairs, Licato explains to Gothamist. I didnt even see the guy. I just see his fist coming towards me. It knocked me, and while I was falling down the stairs, all I hear was, This is because you look exactly like Shia LaBeouf! Just to put a fine point on this, the unknown assailantwhom witnesses describe as a muscular 6-foot-tall bro type in his mid-20sdid not think he was punching the the 29-year-old actor. He was, by his own parting words, punishing a person for looking similar to Transformers: Dark of the Moon star.
After regaining consciousness at the bottom of the stairs, his face bloodied and his glasses broken in half, Licato turned to a couple who had rushed to his aid in order to confirm the absurdity of the event. I was so confused, he recalls. I was even more confused because I got up and I was like, am I crazy or did I hear him say, This is because you look like Shia LaBeouf? And they were like, Nope. Thats exactly what he said as he was running away from you.
The New York-born advertising art director says that he has been mistaken for LaBeouf in the past and has been stopped on the street a number of times, though this is the first time such an encounter has come to violence. I want to know what Shia LaBeouf did to him, Licato told Gothamist. What did Shia LaBeouf do to him that he punched somebody that looks like him? He must have did something so mean. Did he steal his girlfriend? Did he just see his last performance art piece? Sounds like he just answered his own question

The suicide rate in the US has surged to its highest level in almost three decades, according to a new report.
The increase is particularly pronounced among middle-age white people who now account for a third of all US suicides.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report did not offer an explanation for the steep rise.
However, other experts have pointed to increased abuse of prescription opiates and the financial downturn that began in 2008 as likely factors.
The report did not break down the suicides by education level or income, but previous studies found rising suicide rates among white people without university degrees.
"This is part of the larger emerging pattern of evidence of the links between poverty, hopelessness and health," Robert D Putnam, a professor of public policy at Harvard, told the New York Times.
CDC reported on Friday that suicides have increased in the US to a rate of 13 per 100,000 people, the highest since 1986.
Meanwhile, homicides and deaths from ailments like cancer and heart disease have declined.
In the past, suicides have been most common among white people, but the recent increases have been sharp.
The overall suicide rate rose by 24% from 1999 to 2014, according to the CDC. However, the rate increased 43% among white men ages 45 to 64 and 63% for women in the same age-range.
In 2014, more than 14,000 middle-aged white people killed themselves.
That figure is double the combined suicides total for all blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, and Alaska Natives.
The suicide rate declined for only two groups: black men and all people over 75.

Killer bees swarmed into Friday prayers at a Phoenix, Arizona mosque, stinging over 20 people and shutting down the entire street in the process.
Some 20,000 bees attacked the Muslim Community Mosque, causing worshipers to flee as fire crews cordoned off the building and sprayed it with a special foam to subdue the bees.
Local residents were instructed to stay indoors and one man told KNXV-TV how he witnessed the angry bees from his house.
[quote]I don't know, it was just crazy how everyone was running everywhere, he said. They were making some movements like that ... some people would even fall in the grass over there and then they'd get up and start running.
Many were stung as they quickly covered themselves with blankets and one 24 year old was taken to hospital, but is in stable condition, according to local channel KTVK-TV.
The incident didnt stop actual Islamophobia on Twitter. Right-wing users immediately mocked Muslims, telling them to buzz off in some cases.
Much to the disappointment of the bigots, no one was seriously hurt.

Brenda Barfield paused to think about the faces of her Rollins College professors over the past three years.
There hadn't been a single African-American professor leading her classes, she said after a moment at the private Winter Park school where 91 percent of the faculty are white.
"Not even an adjunct," said Barfield, an Apopka resident who is black and returned to school to study communications in hopes of starting her own public relations firm.
What happened next on Friday was an honest and sometimes uncomfortable discussion as students like Barfield, professors and the school's president discussed the lack of diversity at the predominantly white college.

Sentinel-2a is the European equivalent of America's Landsat mission, which has been imaging the surface of the Earth for 40 years.
The US satellite's data is free and open, which has driven a multitude of applications. Most people will probably know it best from the map tools they use on their computers and smartphones. These all incorporate Landsat pictures.
Sentinel's data has been designed to be complementary, but the platform also represents a big jump in capability.
Its imaging instrument will be sensitive across more bands of light (13 versus Landsat's eight), allowing it to discern more information about the land beneath it; and Sentinel-2a will "carpet map" a much wider strip of ground (290km versus 185km).
In addition, its colour images have a best resolution of 10m, versus Landsat's 30m.
Esa will launch Sentinel-3a at the end of 2015. This satellite is dedicated to observing the oceans.

[b]Each year a fundamental question arises. Young people especially want to know, "Why do we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? The following is a brief analysis which can be duplicated and shared with schools, churches, organizations and the media.[b]
In 1776, the American Colonies declared their freedom from Great Britain. In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote that "all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." That is, Jefferson declared that all citizens have the rights to be free from oppression and have equal opportunities in pursuing their goals. These ideals have been called the American Dream.
Efforts to give black people their rights never stopped, but the changes were not enough. After World War II, many more people felt that new laws were needed. In 1954, the Supreme Court ruled that blacks and whites could go to the same schools, saying that "separate but equal" schools were inherently unequal. However, many people still did not want to change. It took a strong leader, a person who believed in peace and justice, to win more freedom for black Americans. Martin Luther King, Jr. was that man.
Between 1955 and 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. helped change America. He brought to the world's attention how unfairly blacks were treated. He had the help of millions of Americans, but his strong leadership and unprecedented power of speech gave people the faith and courage to keep working peacefully even when others did not. This led to new laws that ended the practice of keeping people of different backgrounds apart, making life fairer for everyone.
