Microsoft owns up to "E74" 360 errors, expands warranty

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 03:26 PM | Tuesday, April 14, 2009 | (url: http://arstechnic...)

A popular gaming blog tracked a new kind of Xbox 360 error, the E74, and Microsoft has finally owned up and added the issue to the three-year "Red Ring of Death" warranty. This is a win for consumers, but it's yet another black eye for Microsoft's hardware.

While Xbox 360 systems may be known more for the dreaded "red ring of death" than any other hardware failure, one gaming blog has been tracking the rise of the "E74" error, an issue that causes the console to crash and show a multi-language kill screen. You'll also get a single red section on your system's power button. Microsoft is aware of the problem, and has since amended it's three-year warranty to cover the error.

Then they can request Tribes, Ventrilo, and personal Training, etc..... at the web site providing the training.

Sony launches PlayStation 'Home' Virtual Community

Submitted by: DVADER @ 10:04 AM | Thursday, December 11, 2008 | (url: http://money.cnn....)

Sony Corp.'s much delayed virtual community for owners of its PlayStation 3 game console will start worldwide Thursday, but it's unlikely to attract many newcomers to the machine, company officials said.

The free-of-charge PlayStation Home service is mainly meant to make gaming more fun for people who already own the PS3, they said.

Junji "JB" Shoda, a Sony Computer Entertainment Japan vice president, who oversees Home, said Wednesday the service isn't meant to rival virtual worlds like Linden Lab's "Second Life," which can be played on personal computers and has drawn millions of people.

EA sued over Spore DRM

Submitted by: EspoMan @ 02:52 AM | Saturday, September 27, 2008 | (url: http://www.gamesp...)

The suit accuses EA of "intentionally" hiding the fact Spore uses SecurROM, which it alleges is "secretly installed to the command and control center of the computer (Ring 0, or the Kernel) and [is] surreptitiously operated, overseeing function and operation of the computer, and preventing the computer from operating under certain circumstances and/or disrupting hardware operations." The suit also claims the SecurROM takes over a portion of the PC's processing resources "to transmit information back to EA."

ET- Quakewars MOD: Tribal Wars

Submitted by: Arcanox @ 06:03 PM | Sunday, September 21, 2008 | (url: http://www.twars....)

The project's working title is Tribal Wars, and it is a total conversion mod for Enemy Territory Quake Wars. The fundamental game play aspects are built around Starsiege: Tribes, but this project intends to develop additional elements that would spill over from the project's parent title Enemy Territory - Quake Wars.

We're working towards Milestone 1 in the project which will consist very much of a Tribes LT like experience, and simplified inventory stations. Subsequent milestones may include a larger selection of weapons, armor and tactical elements, many of which may be borrowed from Quake Wars.

I hope you guys like what you see, there will be more posted on the blog in the future.

Nintendo Faces Patent Suit over Wiimote

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 01:05 PM | Thursday, August 21, 2008 | (url: http://news.yahoo...)

Nintendo's hit Wii console with its wandlike remote controller has been targeted in patent infringement complaints by a U.S. technology company.

Hillcrest Laboratories, based in Rockville, Md., has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington D.C., and a patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Maryland against Nintendo Corp., the company said in a statement Wednesday.

Kyoto-based Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said Thursday the Japanese video game company has not yet received the lawsuit and had no comment.

Hillcrest is accusing Nintendo of infringement in four patents dealing with technology for a handheld three-dimensional pointing device and a display interface system for organizing graphic content on a TV, it said.

Nintendo Loses Controller Lawsuit

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 11:10 PM | Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | (url: http://www.1up.co...)

The lawsuit concerns the analog sticks in the Classic Controller and GameCube controllers, which Texas-based Anascape Ltd. claims to hold a patent on that Nintendo violated. The court has ruled in favor of Anascape, and U.S. District Judge Ron Clark has rejected Nintendo's request for a new trial. As a result, Clark said he will put a ban on the sale of the controllers (which includes sales of GameCube systems) starting tomorrow, July 23, unless Nintendo posts a bond or puts royalties into an escrow account.

While the ruling concerns the analog sticks on the controllers, it doesn't include sales of the Nunchuck attachment for the Wii remote, which was deemed not to violate Anascape's patent.
